I believe we're slated to release Monday (is that still correct Syd and Sarah?), and I'm currently working on the release notes, which I'll commit shortly. I recommend everyone who has time take a look at http://teijenkins.hcmc.uvic.ca/job/TEIP5-dev/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/P… and check for typos in sections you know have had work done on them. I just found a few in the Languages and Character Sets intro, which I've fixed. I'll be up on Slack starting about 8:30 am EDT Monday morning. If the release techs decide you need a bit more time, that's fine. I'll be available next week to help until midday on Thursday. Sorry to have been a bit tardy with the release notes. I was struggling with a couple of very hairy project deliverables this week, and it ended up consuming all of my available time. Hugh

Hi Council (and also CC'ing MartinH), As I was implementing it for a local project, I improved the docxtotei stylesheet by having it put <anchor/> elements in to indicate the range of the comment. As I'm sure you know in MS Word and Libreoffice and similar programs when creating a 'comment' you can highlight a bit of text associated with it. Currently this was treating them in a similar way as as we do footnotes, a note added at the point of the w:commentReference. The change to add in an <anchor/> also indicating the start/end of the highlighted range was really quite easy. See https://github.com/TEIC/Stylesheets/issues/275 for the details. I initially thought it best to do this with a milestone, forgetting that @unit was mandatory on that now, but then re-thought and decided that <anchor/> would be better. Now on to the problem! I pushed two changes: https://github.com/TEIC/Stylesheets/commit/5291228473a8036ea576b7cb6434d3b0… where I did the actual change but using <milestone/> and https://github.com/TEIC/Stylesheets/commit/e9b92381fd6d3d23d3bba4e2142dce02… where I changed this to <anchor/>. This all works as expected for the local project here and all well and good. But when pushing to jenkins I seem to have made stylesheets-dev unstable. The parsed console output is at: http://jenkins.tei-c.org/job/Stylesheets-dev/2230/parsed_console/ where you can see that there are 6 warnings all of the type: === /var/lib/jenkins/jobs/Stylesheets-dev/workspace/Test/rxxsd.xsd:4:115: warning: schema_reference.4: Failed to read schema document 'http://www.w3.org/2004/10/xml.xsd', because 1) could not find the document; 2) the document could not be read; 3) the root element of the document is not <xsd:schema>. === And indeed the root element in http://www.w3.org/2004/10/xml.xsd is not <xsd:schema> but <xs:schema> ... but if that were really the problem surely we'd have noticed it before now. Any idea how my change to docxtotei could cause an XSD related warning? Or is this just coincidence of some type? I've scratched my head about this and can't figure out what caused it. strange OxGarage transformation TEIP5 to PDF

Dear all, I was trying to produce a PDF from a TEI P5 document but get irritating results from OxGarage (both at http://www.tei-c.org/oxgarage/ and http://oxgarage.oucs.ox.ac.uk:8080/ege-webclient/) i.e. there is almost no text structure and everything in a monospaced font. When checking the (documents) transformation from "TEI P5 XML Document“ to „PDF“, it seems, the transformation path OxGarage takes is actually TEIP5->Plain Text->PDF which leads to the strange results. Can someone confirm this? Am I missing something? Thanks in advance Peter

Translatathon

Dear all, this is a report on the progress of the TEI2German Translatathon: the translations of the intersection of TEI simplePrint and TEI lite are now - with the help of the colleagues from Graz - completed, and the translations are implemented into the Specs. Now, the question is how to proceed? At the F2F in Prague we talked about adding a button to the specs, which provides translations from Google translator. For this, we have to evaluate if the Google translator provides useful translations in various languages: For German, it does (see report at the end). May I ask you to have a look at the Google Spreadsheet containing 10 element specifications in different languages (see tabs) to test if Google Translator would be usable for an initial step in the translation process? I would ask you to add your comments wherever possible. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1iVPMNGXj7p_XUAHW34LJsr6_owVSAq8bdDW… For the German translations: In the last Translatathon session we used Google translator for the specific example descriptions and we progressed very quickly. I think the descriptions are pretty good, most of them are comprehensible, although sometimes I would have picked another wording. The glosses are good as well, but sometimes too abbreviated. Most of the remarks are pretty good for a machine translation. Problems arise where technical TEI vocabulary (TEI-Header) is also translated, and complex German sentence structures are not always resolved correctly (especially when the remarks contain encoding). Overall, we found that using Google translator certainly cuts down time needed for translations significantly. Best, Martina Mag.
