Quick skim, looks good. Might you consider a section at the top for "Who Is This For?" mentioning that the idiots in e question are likely to be those who are sophisticatedly writing their own ODD schemas that variants of existing ODDs? I.e. if you are just looking to customise TEI this isn't something you need to know, it is for a whole different class of idiot. No thanks at all to SNCF for causing me to lose half of the first draft by braking suddenly on the train here on Friday. I've always said compiled ODD. Resolved also makes sense. Talking of naming, can we get a consensus on what we call the thing that results from processing a TEI ODD with teitoodd ? It's analogous to the p5subset.xml we know and love, so maybe we should call it a subset, not an ODD (which is what teitoodd implies : give it foo.odd and you will receive foo.odd.odd) . It isn't an ODD as we know it, obviously. But it isn't necessarily a subset either. I think of it as a "compiled ODD" but maybe that has the wrong connotations. Dearie me, and there we were abandoning sourceforge because it kept crashing, and now github has gone down the plughole too. Scarey. Apparently, according to French tv news, this is part of a mammoth DOS attack on lots of high profile US based sites.

Yes. And like with a normal odd in a chained odd you have to moduleRef all the modules from the source that are going to be used in your subset. You don't get everything in the source by default, the first ODD just limits what is in the source that you have available to choose from in your second ODD. purifying odd doc

On my way home from Vienna I started drafting a little homily about how to update your old ODD to a pure new shiny one. The source is in github under TEI/Documentation/pureODD/purifyDoc.xml CETEICEAN renders it reasonably well (modulo a couple of gotchas on which I've posted issues) at http://teic.github.io/TCW/purifyDoc.html, but the nicest reading version is at http://teic.github.io/TCW/purifyDoc_static.html I'd very much welcome Council's comments before exposing it further. Seems to me we need to promote ODD a bit more, and this might be a good start. I'm also working on an "ODD for beginners" guide, but this one is aimed at old lags who made an ODD back in the day and are interested in getting up to speed with its new possibilities. So much so (I now realise) that I've completely forgotten to mention the existence of Roma in it. But I'll stop tweaking for now anent your comments...

Reminder: we are scheduled to meet at 17:00Z today, Tue 10-18. That's 10:00 in Vancouver, 13:00 in New York, 18:00 in London, and 19:00 in Vienna. A few hours ago my sister found her husband dead. So I may not be at our meeting, and if I do I will be in less than optimal surroundings and w/o any preparation. Someone else should set up the Google Hangout. (Or we should use Skype, and someone else should set that up. :-)
