Just a note that github gists seem to have a robust API that Raff might be able to use to create anonymous gists. (I'm assuming they need to be anonymous since we can't know a user has a github account (unless we prompt for that of course)) https://developer.github.com/v3/gists/ An anonymous gist looks like: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/17d01d7dd23399c7953b526a0f2ed6e5 And has the benefits over other services that we're using github so can comment with our accounts, link to issues, lines of code, etc., etc. So my suggestion is that one of the export options is 'save customisation to Github Gist' or 'Make this customisation public' or something use this to do so. -James -- Dr James Cummings, James.Cummings(a)it.ox.ac.uk Academic IT Services, University of Oxford

All, I'm thinking restaurants will be very busy tomorrow since it's a Saturday and it might difficult to walk in with a large group. We should probably book somewhere. I'm thinking we could go to Lokál on Dlouhá st, 33: https://goo.gl/maps/8QWzygt36zp Is 8pm OK? What's with "TEI pour les cartes postales"? It is an ODD in ./P5/Exemplars/tei_bare_bis.odd which, as far as I can tell, is never built or used in any process, whether bash file, ANT file, or Makefile. It's version history says it has barely been tweaked since it was added to our old Subversion repository 2011-01-23 by Lou with the comment "add useless alt syntax version". It's also quite out of date, and has at least a few errors. (E.g., it is invalid because it is missing a <publisher> or equivalent, and it is erroneous because it does not include <teiHeader>. (The 'teiHeader' inclusion is on the <moduleRef> for the textstructure module, but it is actually in the header module.) If it is useless, unused, broken, and out of date, maybe we can ditch it? Anyone remember why it is there in the first place?

xxe and simplePrint

For the benefit of the confused, let me point out that the suggestion of getting an xxe-based implementation of simplePrint is not meant to preclude using either some other xml editor or some other schema. But xxe/xmlmind has the advantage over e.g. oxygen of being FREE to distribute, which matters a lot to some people, and also (amongst other free xml editors) the advantage of being reasonably fully-featured. And I believe the TEI is supposed to be enhusiastic about simplePrint.

I see that the nice people at XXE mind are now offering free downloadable versions of xml mind editor for personal use (http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/download.shtml) : they offer versions customized versions for docbook and dita and xhtml. Why not for TEI SimplePrint?

upcoming telcon

If I am correct, we have a teleconference scheduled for this coming Thu 01-26. I will be at a (non-DH) conference in New Orleans, so I will make only the first part of the call, if any. One of the agenda items should be to get our new members (Sarah Stanley and Alexandro Bia) situated. I am happy to mentor either of them. (And there is some added efficiency to my mentoring Sarah, as we are in the same time zone and are already working on a project together; that said, Sarah might want exposure to some other member of Council.) If I do make the call, I hope to be able to address the TOCTOC (aka odd4odds) schema. As a reminder Council agreed at the October 2015 F2F that this schema should be included in Exemplars/. But quite a few details were left for later, including: * its name * how it gets built (I've pretty much solved this by now) * how we "sell" it, given that it is not like other schemas (i.e., it is not really designed to differentiate valid from invalid ODD files, but rather to help you create an ODD file that roma is happy with) * for what files, if any, it should be the default schema when using our oXygen framework I'll try to have a version of it up & available for everyone to look at by Wed morning.

Why is @name of <param> defined as an XPath (via teidata.xpath)? The prose definition says it's a name, and all examples in the Guidelines look like names,[1] and it's hard to imagine what we would do with an XPath in there. So unless someone can explain the rationale for teidata.xpath pretty soon, I plan to plop in a ticket and change it to teidata.name. aka: class system bites us again? The <model>, <modelGrp>, and <modelSequence> elements allow <altIdent> as a child (via model.glossLike), but since the do not have an @ident attribute, what is <altIdent> supposed to be an alternate to? (The same is true for <taxonomy>, but since it is not in the 'tagdocs' module, it seems like less of a problem.)

simplePrint Exemplar is missing images

Hi all, The simplePrint ODD refers to three images which are expected to be found in ../Images (P5/Images). However, when the release/distro is created, none of these images find their way to a useful location; by rights, they should be in the "images" subfolder of the Exemplars folder in the output release/xml/tei/Exemplars/images or they should be in release/doc/tei-p5-exemplars/html/images/ In both cases the paths in the documentation files would need to be appropriately changed. The result is that the HTML version of simplePrint documentation (for instance) has no images: <http://www.tei-c.org/release/doc/tei-p5-exemplars/html/tei_simplePrint.doc.…> Was this already known, or should I raise a ticket? The images are there in the PDF, because they're incorporated into the file at build time, but the ODD file of course also links to them. Cheers, Martin

Prague Accommodations

Dear Council, If any of you are seeking accommodation and would like to share a nice big flat as Ellie and I did in Vienna, I've started a list of potentially eligible places on AirBNB, suitable for up to 4 people and within I think 10-15 minutes walk of the XML Prague conference venue. (I also found several more which are great for solo or a couple.) I had a great time splitting the flat with Ellie and would be happy to share again. This time my spouse, Greg, is coming along because he really wants to see Prague, but we are both comfortable with sharing accommodation space. We're booking from Saturday 2/4 to Saturday 2/11. The rates are extremely reasonable in USD (between $35 - $75 per night), so splitting would be a great deal. We can easily cover a small spot for just ourselves, so I am also happy just to pass along my list of discoveries for places with what look to be two separate sleeping quarters, in case anyone else is interested. Hi Hugh, hi all, I'd be happy to talk about: - TEI for Long Term Preservation: I can introduce the problem of LTP (if necessary), why XML-TEI is the best option for document encoding considering LTP, and present the case of the Miguel de Cervantes DL: TEI documents encoded 16 years ago using P3, easily migrated to P5, and still being used.
