Re: [Tei-council] release notes

Hi all, isn't that how SF shells always worked? I remember there always being done weirdness around this. I.e. easier to scp the files but getting an actual login was always difficult in some way. In release notes do things like: === A zip file with examples for ODD chaining has been added to the /TEIC/TEI/Documents/pureODD directory (#1882). === really belong since it is for a tutorial outside of the Guidelines that Council isn't writing? (Honest question, I'm not sure either way.) There was a problem with the TEI server yesterday; apparently the db server became unresponsive, so the site was giving "unable to connect to db" errors (why oh why did we go for WordPress? If there's one community on the planet who doesn't need a child-friendly interface to make web pages, it's us, surely?) Hi all though this is mostly a question to Louis :-) We're going through step-by-step instructions and already asked Martina for GPG passphrase to sign Debian package but wondering if the related key is already on the server, chances are since we are operating on the temporary set up it might not be. Louis, would you be able to confirm this for us? I'm talking specifically about this part of http://teic.github.io/TCW/tcw22.html
Ask for the TEI-C GPG key passphrase. You'll need it for signing the Debian packages. (The GPG private key itself is hosted on the server at the default location.) Thanks in advance,

Back to the codename for this release, let's run with "potrzebie" in honor of the Potrzebie system of measures, Mad Magazine, and my visit to Poland this week to do the release with Magdalena. :-) Shall I edit that directly on the release notes? Hi all though this is mostly a question to Louis :-)
We're going through step-by-step instructions and already asked Martina for GPG passphrase to sign Debian package but wondering if the related key is already on the server, chances are since we are operating on the temporary set up it might not be. Louis, would you be able to confirm this for us? I'm talking specifically about this part of http://teic.github.io/TCW/tcw22.html
Ask for the TEI-C GPG key passphrase. You'll need it for signing the Debian packages. (The GPG private key itself is hosted on the server at the default location.) Thanks in advance,
Magdalena

Hi all, isn't that how SF shells always worked? I remember there always being done weirdness around this. I.e. easier to scp the files but getting an actual login was always difficult in some way.
In release notes do things like: === A zip file with examples for ODD chaining has been added to the /TEIC/TEI/Documents/pureODD directory (#1882). === really belong since it is for a tutorial outside of the Guidelines that Council isn't writing? (Honest question, I'm not sure either way.)
Many thanks, James

I can't ssh into SF shell with my keys either, and I certainly used to be able to. Things seem to have changed since the last time I did it, though; the instructions here seem different:
<https://sourceforge.net/p/forge/documentation/Shell%20Service/>
When I tried what's in TCW22 I was asked for a password, then the shell shut itself down automatically:

Welcome!
This is a restricted Shell Account. You can only copy files to/from here.
Connection to frs.sourceforge.net closed. __________________________________________
It might be worth considering whether we want to bother with the SF release any more; or whether it should be left until after release day, to simplify things for the release technicians, and then someone could just do it later when there's no time pressure.
Cheers, Martin
Nope-- no luck yet. Same problem as before: I'm prompted for a password when I attempt SSH access to SourceForge TEI from the scratch-tei server. And the tei@tei-c.org <mailto:tei@tei-c.org <tei@tei-c.org>> server just times out so I can't get in there at all.
Thanks for the troubleshooting help...

I've added you to the admin group. Can you check again?
There was a problem with the TEI server yesterday; apparently the db server became unresponsive, so the site was giving "unable to connect to db" errors (why oh why did we go for WordPress? If there's one community on the planet who doesn't need a child-friendly interface to make web pages, it's us, surely?) I emailed Jon and he says it's a problem with Compute Canada, and they weren't responding to his requests to restart it, so he's set up a new db server instance and pointed to that instead. I don't know whether any of this would affect what needs to happen on release day, but I hope not; presumably the regular command-line stuff will be unaffected. But let's keep our fingers crossed.
Cheers, Martin

Back to the codename for this release, let's run with "potrzebie" in honor of the Potrzebie system of measures, Mad Magazine, and my visit to Poland this week to do the release with Magdalena. :-) Shall I edit that directly on the release notes?
I think so, unless there is an uproar of complaint about the choice. As for me, it's fine.

The Debian packages are not served from Louis’ server but from Paderborn. I have a Docker image for the Apt repo at https://cloud.docker.com/u/teic/repository/docker/teic/tei-apt-repo which I will update and deploy once the releases are made on GitHub. Best Peter

(The GPG private key itself is hosted on the server at the default location.)
Thanks in advance,
Magdalena

In release notes do things like: === A zip file with examples for ODD chaining has been added to the /TEIC/TEI/Documents/pureODD directory (#1882). === really belong since it is for a tutorial outside of the Guidelines that Council isn't writing? (Honest question, I'm not sure either way.)
Many thanks, James

I can't ssh into SF shell with my keys either, and I certainly used to be able to. Things seem to have changed since the last time I did it, though; the instructions here seem different:
<https://sourceforge.net/p/forge/documentation/Shell%20Service/>

And the tei@tei-c.org <mailto:tei@tei-c.org> server just times out so I can't get in there at all.
Thanks for the troubleshooting help...

I was a bit surprised to see that too: a simple corrigible error, noted by a ticket, and duly fixed, but hey why not. It reminds me to remind Council that it would really be a good idea to include an odd chaining test in the test suite. Though perhaps not until the long outstanding bugs in odd2odd have been fixed.

I agree it's a bit out of place. Too minor for release notes, IMHO. But thank's for the reminder, Lou -- putting an ODD chaining test into Test2/ is indeed on my virtual list of things to do after odd2odd is in better shape. But since said list is virtual, not real, a reminder is really appreciated. :-)
