Can I encourage those of you who haven't participated in the "let's just choose a date and place" poll at http://doodle.com/fk8qbq6rrrn7qugq to do so if you care at all about the outcome? Right now, we're leaning (by one vote) toward Durham at the end of April. I'll plan on closing the poll on Monday. All the best, Hugh
Umm ... this is a just a "pick one" poll, so I'm not sure I see how it's going to be helpful. I'm OK with any of the choices, but have a mild preference for Ann Arbor over Boston, and Boston over Durham. But really, would be fine with Durham, too.

I hope since we have to pick just one there will either be a clear winner or we'll at least be able to triangulate on a choice. Sent from my phone.

But then, with a pick one choice, it's not much use of picking one of the
infrequent choices, even when all others would be happy with this as well.
In any case, if it's a method to agree on something rather soon it will be
okay.
Cheers,

I think we have a winner then. We have more votes for Ann Arbour, but we're
evenly split as to date—5 for end of April, 5 for end of May. Paul hasn't
voted yet, and as local organizer, I think it's appropriate that he have
the deciding vote as to date. Paul, what works best for you?

As I suggested in a previous message, perhaps obscurely, I think that a date at the end of April or beginning of May would be next to impossible because it would coincide with the University graduation week/end, making it verra difficult to find a hotel room, much less ten or so. So if held here, it would have to be the later date (end of May, that is), simply as a logistical question. pfs On Sun, Feb 15, 2015, at 10:06, Hugh Cayless wrote:

I think the poll indicates, fwiw, two possible dates for Ann Arbor, both of which might be described as "end of May", i.e. 27-29 May, and 28-30 May. Could we perhaps make a decision now? I have a preference for 28-30 may, fwiw, but can live with either. I can even live with the rival suggestion of Durham for 30-may2 if need be. The preponderance of votes was for 28-30 I think, and even for the earlier
meeting in Durham, most people seemed to want a Thursday–Saturday meeting,
so unless Paul has any reasons why that wouldn't work, let's say Ann Arbor,

The only problem I can think of with Saturday is that the library doors don't open till 10 am (M-F it's 8). So if we were meeting in the library, we'd have to start later on Saturday. Which might not be a terrible thing. pfs On Mon, Feb 16, 2015, at 11:41, Hugh Cayless wrote:

Could we perhaps make a decision now? I have a preference for 28-30 may, fwiw, but can live with either. I can even live with the rival suggestion of Durham for 30-may2 if need be. The thing I cannot endure much longer is this protracted uncertainty ....

I think we have a winner then. We have more votes for Ann Arbour, but we're evenly split as to date—5 for end of April, 5 for end of May. Paul hasn't voted yet, and as local organizer, I think it's appropriate that he have the deciding vote as to date. Paul, what works best for you?

: exactly. a vote for anything other than the two majority parties is a
vote wasted.

well.
In any case, if it's a method to agree on something rather soon it will

okay.

I don't think that's an insurmountable problem... :-)

The only problem I can think of with Saturday is that the library doors don't open till 10 am (M-F it's 8). So if we were meeting in the library, we'd have to start later on Saturday. Which might not be a terrible thing. pfs

The preponderance of votes was for 28-30 I think, and even for the earlier meeting in Durham, most people seemed to want a Thursday–Saturday meeting, so unless Paul has any reasons why that wouldn't work, let's say Ann Arbor, May 28-30.
Any objections?

I've put Thu 28 to Sat 30 May 2015 in Ann Arbor down on my calendar, and told Julia we'll be seriously considering Northeastern for Spring 2016.
Ok for me, so on 28th I can offer you a drink for my birthday!
