We will elect the 2020 Council Chair at our Dec meeting.[1] At our Nov meeting yesterday only 1 person (MS, incumbent) was nominated to run for Council Chair. If anyone would like to submit a nomination for Chair, including self nominations, please do so by Tue 03 Dec. (Send e-mail to this list or to MS.) New members-to-be (MB, NC, JL): * Reminder -- the archives of this list are public. * You cannot actually submit a nomination or vote. But if there is someone you think should be nominated say so, and almost assuredly someone else will nominate her or him for you. BTW, we have never discussed this, but as far as I'm concerned someone whose term starts in Jan *is* eligible to run for Chair, even if not eligible to vote. (Someone whose term ends in Dec is not currently eligible to run, but is eligible to vote.[2]) It is probably a very bad idea for someone who has never served on Council to be its Chair, but it is allowed. And, e.g., if James Cummings is elected to Council again some years from now, this allows Council to decide he should step right back into the Chair's seat. Notes ----- [1] Which meeting I think will be Tue 10 Dec 14:00Z (06:00 PST, 09:00 EST, 14:00 GMT, 15:00 CEST -- do we have any other time zones represented?). If I'm wrong on that, please let me know or I will miss it. [2] Note that if no one who will be on Council in 2020 were willing to run, the Bylaws III.3 have an alternate mechanism that allows nomination of non-Councilors. But since MS is willing to run, this does not come into play.
