Re: [tei-council] No meeting Thursday
Sounds good to me. With Georg on the board, conference pending, Graz is taking over the TEI world! (Maybe Graz is the new Oxford of old?)
I remembered that I had once added something to the TEI Council FAQ on the role of the Council Chair.... it is at
https://wiki.tei-c.org/index.php/TEI-Council-FAQ#TEI_Technical_Council_Chair if that helps.
I welcome our new Austrian (potential) overlords.

If Martina’s willing to take this on, I agree that she’d certainly be reliable! But for the benefit of continuity and long perspective, if she’s willing, I’d nominate Elli!

As for the chair question and remembering that TEI council had no female chair so far (I think)... Since it is a role that requires a certain level of orderliness, punctuality and ability to keep discussions on track, Martina strikes me as a perfect candidate. Or contrcandidate, since I think Hugh is doing an amazing job there and I would be more than happy to leave things as they are.
My personal opinion is that TEI is a complicated beast and we should value the continuity, experience and wisdom brought to the council by people who have been involved in it for longer time. I severely miss Lou or Martin on the Council even if we tend to have opposing views from time to time and what I miss the most is the broad perspective and critical overview of TEI they possess.

Excellent! I’ve heard lots of support for Martina and no objections. I’m not all that anxious to cling to power 🙂. Can we take it that Martina is chosen by acclamation? You certainly have my full support! I’ll let the Board know and we can get everything set for Martina to take over in January. Yay! Hugh Sent from my phone.

I have updated the website to list Martina as chair for 2018. (The bylaws allow for this and other officer positions to be appointed for up to two years, so if the appointment was supposed to last longer, I can update the site.) --Kevin On 12/12/17 4:16 AM, Hugh Cayless wrote:
