Hearing no suggestions, I've got myself a room at a different (and seemingly less expensive) hotel: Quality Suites Lyon 7 Lodge 7 rue Félix Brun
I haven't chosen a hotel, and hope to do so tonight. Suggestions?
Hi,
just got a good offer from Syd's hotel so I switched my reservations to
this hotel. I hope I will find the way to the mama shelter.
See you,

its actually pretty easy to find.... provided you start from the right place. 1. Exit the jean-mace metro station at the "rue chevreul" end of the platform 2. Walk about 1 minutes north on rue elie rochette 3. Turn right on rue chevreul 4. On the next intersection you will see a drab gray building with a white flag and a silvery plaque saying "mama shelter" on the left. It's number 13 rue Dormer. I just got here, so I speak with AUTHORITY. Who's up for dinner tonight? If so where? On 23/10/15 19:53, Stefan Majewski wrote:

I'm up for dinner if it's not too late and it's not too far away. I'm staying in an apartment on Léon Jouhaux up in the 3rd arr. I've been feeling a bit rough today so I stayed in. I want to be cautious on the food front. Did you have anywhere in mind? Quick reminder to everyone: the clocks go back tonight. :-) Cheers, Martin On 2015-10-24 04:09 PM, Hugh Cayless wrote:

Syd and I are currently in Munich airport and arrive at LYS at 7pm'ish (then add time for getting into Lyon, to our hotels and back out again) so would be late to almost anything you plan. Doesn't look that far away, but depends on which end of the street you're at. There's what looks like a nice resto not too far from you (or me) : lepetitcarron-restaurant.com (48 ave felix faure) http://www.lepetitcarron-restaurant.com/ Their "timeless" menu offers a choice of good things for delicate tummies at only 30 euro. Or you have the traditional Lyonnaise lard menu at 23.50 And I think they offer jazz, which is probably an improvement on the Mama which is offering some flavour of acidhouse dj tonight. Shall I ring and see if we can get a table ce soir for 4 about 8 pm? (that would give Hugh and me a chance to walk up there) On 24/10/15 15:30, Martin Holmes wrote:

1. Exit the jean-mace metro station at the "rue chevreul" end of the platform
2. Walk about 1 minutes north on rue elie rochette
3. Turn right on rue chevreul
4. On the next intersection you will see a drab gray building with a white flag and a silvery plaque saying "mama shelter" on the left. It's number 13 rue Dormer.
I just got here, so I speak with AUTHORITY.
Who's up for dinner tonight? If so where?

And Syd and I and Sabine Seifert were on same train. We sent Hugh off with Sabine since Syd and I were headed to a different hotel. There's what looks like a nice resto not too far from you (or me) : lepetitcarron-restaurant.com (48 ave felix faure) http://www.lepetitcarron-restaurant.com/
Their "timeless" menu offers a choice of good things for delicate tummies at only 30 euro. Or you have the traditional Lyonnaise lard menu at 23.50
And I think they offer jazz, which is probably an improvement on the Mama which is offering some flavour of acidhouse dj tonight.
Shall I ring and see if we can get a table ce soir for 4 about 8 pm? (that would give Hugh and me a chance to walk up there)

Only just now cranked up the computer and connected to Mama's wifi. We tend to run more in the 3-5-Euro range for dinner ourselves (i.e. sandwiches grabbed from a sandwich shop or market), which is what we did en route to an orienting walk across the river and up and down the commercial strip over there (rue Victor Hugo and that lot, from the busking bands at the north end to the open market at the south end). After, that is, an essential hour's nap after 28 sleepless travel hours, a delayed flight and tight connection at Paris/CDG, and several frustrating minutes figuring out how to buy a Metro ticket out of a machine (which says only that it is good on buses and never mentions the Metro...) Thx for the clock reminder. The U.S. does its time change on 1 Nov. A pox on both their houses. [* I did, however, feel inordinately pleased to have on hand a credit card that would actually work in a French chip-and-pin billeterie. At last check, there is only one U.S.-available credit card fully compatible with European card standards, and it takes about six months and much hoop-jumping to acquire one.] pfs On Sat, Oct 24, 2015, at 12:42, Lou Burnard wrote:

I've had my credit card declined twice, once by the metro machine and once in a restaurant, but Cath's identical card on the same account (but different number) worked on the metro machine, and mine subsequently worked in a bank machine. I also discovered something newly annoying: the wifi in my apartment is something called freebox, which b roadcasts on channels 12 and 13. Those are illegal in north America, I gather -- we go only up to 11 -- and if you've installed your Ubuntu in north America and admitted you live there during the process, it apparently disables the use of those channels in a way which is difficult (I've found it impossible so far) to reverse. So I'm connecting my laptop through my Nexus 5 -- which works incredibly well, thankfully. Cheers, Martin On 2015-10-24 08:56 PM, Paul Schaffner wrote:

Paul, yes, no question mark. Assuming the world's transport system gets us there. pfs On Thu, Oct 15, 2015, at 08:17, Hugh Cayless wrote:

I have an airbnb. And actually I will get to Lyon only on Sunday at 2pm
ca. since for family reasons I could not leave Rome on Sat. So I will reach
you directly at the hotel as soon as possible but surely not for lunch.

I realize that I have lost track, amidst many suggestions for open meetings and curtailments due to workshops, etc., that I no longer know when we are meeting and where. Could someone summarize? Ideally: day, time, building, room, address. (I'm typing out my itinerary and it has large blanks at the centre.) pfs -- Paul Schaffner Digital Library Production Service PFSchaffner@umich.edu | http://www.umich.edu/~pfs/
I've put venue, date, and time info in the agenda page at
https://goo.gl/raFxYG
I'm afraid I don't have a room number for the ENS yet, I'm hoping there
will be signs.

Thanks Hugh, that is perfect. I'm glad to see that it matched expectations, so I wasn't so far behind as I thought I might be :) . pfs On Tue, Oct 20, 2015, at 07:52, Hugh Cayless wrote:

I'm not at the hotel; I'll be in an apartment, all being well. Cheers, Martin On 2015-10-15 02:17 PM, Hugh Cayless wrote:
