Hi all, A reminder that the Doodle poll for our August telecon needs your input, if you haven't already filled it out: http://doodle.com/5ks6ma5f3fez838c Right now, August 31 looks like the best date. I expect the agenda will focus mainly on the migration and on the logistics of a Fall release. It would be really nice to be able to discuss some tickets too though! All the best, Hugh
Hi all,
I'll be on holiday 21st August - 7 Sept so I think I'll have to skip this
call :(

With 8 participants and 7 available, Monday August 31st is the clear winner. Let's say 07:00 PDT / 10:00 EDT / 15:00 BST / 16:00 CEST? FYI, I'm trying out a "clean" export of the Sourceforge svn repo (without the svn metadata and with committer names and email addresses). It will probably take a day or so to run, and I'll put it up on GitHub so we can see what the final product of the migration will look like. Raff, have you made any progress on testing ticket migration? If you want to try loading it up into https://github.com/TEIC/Guidelines-TEST/issues, go right ahead. I figure we'll nuke and re-create it at least a couple of times before we do it for real, so treat it as a sandbox. That actually goes for everyone, unless you're happy with your Git knowledge already. Play around with the repo. Push some random updates to it. Read the README and tell me what doesn't make sense. I'm very happy to do tutoring sessions with anyone who wants to get up to speed on this. All the best, Hugh On Mon, Aug 17, 2015 at 9:36 AM, Raffaele Viglianti < raffaeleviglianti@gmail.com> wrote:

Don't mean to be nit-picky, but I think the poll I filled out was for 06:00 PDT, 09:00 EDT, 14:00 BST, 15:00 CEST on Mon 08-31. I can make a 10:00 call, so don't reschedule this because of me. But it is not as convenient, and it was not a given. (There are some days when an hour difference would mean I could not make it.)

The view I’m looking at (http://doodle.com/5ks6ma5f3fez838c http://doodle.com/5ks6ma5f3fez838c) has both 09:00 and 10:00 EDT as options, but if 09:00 is better for you, I don’t see why it couldn’t be then. Both slots had the same availability. Any objections?

My word! My apologies, Hugh, you are of course correct. The R-most column was not visible on my teeny screen (until I scrolled over, of course). Either will do, but 09:00 is indeed somewhat better for me.

Just to note that I now might not be able to make this. I'll be teaching a workshop in Maynooth. (I say 'Might' because I may be able to participate, I don't know if I'm teaching at that point in the day.) -James On 18/08/15 18:34, Hugh Cayless wrote:

Not sure we'll really have a quorum then, but maybe we can at least check
in on migration progress, etc.. My git-svn checkout is *still* running, by
the way, 2 days later. I'm up to release 2.2. Starting to wonder if we
shouldn't just bite the bullet and move the repo when it's done (if it
looks ok), and wait on the tickets...

Shall we call a commit freeze, then, for the next little while? I know we haven't formally decided on the move to GitHub, but we've been behaving as if we have. Perhaps a final vote on the list ahead of a ratification to go in the minutes during the telco would be a good idea? Cheers, Martin

Shouldn't we wait until after the git-svn checkout is done and imported (if I'm understanding right?) to see if it all seems to work ok? -James On 20/08/15 15:59, Martin Holmes wrote:

Yes. No point in doing anything before that. I might have to run it again!
I also don't know if I'll be able to fetch new commits from svn into this
copy. If I can, then there's no problem.
Just to clarify: I'm making a copy where the svn-style metadata has been
replaced with git-style commit data (committer name+email rather than
sourceforge username) and (when I'm finally done) the tags have been
converted to git-style lightweight tags (i.e. to commit references rather
than remote branches) and the branches are all local branches. In other
words, it'll be a proper git repo rather than a slightly strange hybrid.
My thought process is driven by laziness: if it takes this long to make a
copy, maybe it would be best just to go ahead and use this one if it seems
to have worked.

I was thinking it might be a good idea not to be working on the repo while it's actually being transferred, or immediately afterwards, so that we know we're checking (and possibly moving to) a clean representation of the SF repo. But maybe there's nothing to worry about. Cheers, Martin

Not sure we'll really have a quorum then, but maybe we can at least check in on migration progress, etc.. My git-svn checkout is *still* running, by the way, 2 days later. I'm up to release 2.2. Starting to wonder if we shouldn't just bite the bullet and move the repo when it's done (if it looks ok), and wait on the tickets...
Shall we call a commit freeze, then, for the next little while?
I know we haven't formally decided on the move to GitHub, but we've been behaving as if we have. Perhaps a final vote on the list ahead of a ratification to go in the minutes during the telco would be a good idea?

All the best, Hugh

OK, so is it 09:00 or 10:00 ET? (I've suffered a change in plans, so I no longer care.) And how are we communicating? And can we change the subject line of the svn->git discussion? :-)
Hi all, this time I will not be with you, for the next week I will be in a
location with a vey poor connection. Only I would like to have ultimate
info about the Lyon meeting, I have to reserve flight and hotel. (I have a
paper no workshop or tutorial so for me any day is ok).

I’m in the process of getting a meeting room set up for Sunday the 25th. So we can be pretty sure that’s when we’ll start. I don’t have any info yet on the venue for the subsequent days, except that it’ll be the same as the workshops. Hugh

I'd still like to know whether it's 9 or 10 ET. Whether it's 6 or 7 am my time changes my routine a bit. :-) I would assume we're going to use Google Hangouts again, are we? It seemed to work well last time. Cheers, Martin On 15-08-24 05:14 AM, Hugh Cayless wrote:

I think 10:00 EDT if that’s ok with Syd now. That seems kinder to you, Martin :-). Google Hangout, yes. As previously, if anyone needs/wants to join by phone, just let me know beforehand, and I’ll dial in to the conference room from the hangout.

Yes (obviously) 10:00 EDT is fine. However my headset microphone is not working, so I *may* wish to switch to telephone if the ambient noise from my laptop's internal mic bothers y'all too much. Hugh, could you be kind enough to repeat the Google Hangout connection information?

I’ll set it up and send out a link on the morning of the call.

May be late. Just got attached to a meeting at 9am on the same day -- at another building, a half-hour's walk away. Maybe I can figure out how to make my laptop do hangouts ??? Never tried that. pfs On Mon, Aug 24, 2015, at 09:26, Hugh Cayless wrote:
