Brown all set for April meeting
Hi all - i just got a green light for the council meeting at Brown. Details to be arranged. I'll send you all travel information later today so you can work on tickets. However, if you can hold off a bit, it would be great if we could plan some activities around this event. Who has a talk in them, wants to spend an extra day on either end or consult with people or? thanks, --elli [Elli Mylonas Senior Digital Humanities Librarian and Center for Digital Scholarship University Library Brown University library.brown.edu/cds]
Hi Elli Unless I missed it, you havent sent any more info to help with travel plans for this event, so forgive me for asking some obvious questions: - is arriving sunday evening, leaving thursday or friday evening plausible? - where will we be meeting on campus? - any recommended places to stay? I found a few pricey hotels on booking.com, and some nice looking apartments on air bnb, but nothing particularly close to Brown If anyone really still wants to hear me talk (e.g. about pure ODD) I'm happy to do so, but after the meeting rather than before. Norwegian air offers amazingly cheap flights London/Boston but I will probably need to book that in the next few days. Is Louie's Family Restaurant on Brook St still in business? Looks a bit sad on Google street view. L On 27/01/16 15:31, Mylonas, Elli wrote:

Dear Lou and all:
International Travel info:
International flights should generally go to Logan airport in Boston (BOS).
There is a bus directly from Logan to Providence (www.peterpanbus.com) and
you can also take the Silver Line to South Station and then take the MBTA
to Providence from there (www.mbta.com, Providence line).
Occasionally you can price something through Newark or some other airport,
with a flight to Providence, but mostly Logan is better. (In that former
case, you go through passport control etc. there then schlep your stuff on
to the next flight)
Domestic Travel Info:
Within the US, you can fly to TF Green airport in Providence. It's about 12
miles from Providence, taxi costs about $25 (v. expensive, considering) or
you can ride a city bus for $2 into Providence. Also, if the timing is
right, the Boston commuter rail will also do it. ( http://www.mbta.com,
Providence line )
You can also fly to Boston, some flights are cheaper, but you have to
figure in at least another hour of travel time. Also, departing, TF Green
is a little airport and you can get away with arriving an hour in advance,
Logan is big and you have to a) leave more time and b) work with bus/train
schedules.
Raf - check Southwest from BWI.
Travel Dates:
Sunday evening is fine - the meeting is starting Monday and going through
part or all of Wednesday (Hugh manages that part). You can depart on
Thursday easily. Most European flights tend to leave in the evening from
Boston, so it may even be possible to leave on Wednesday.
Accommodation: I thought I was taking care of that. Has council been doing
Air BnB recently?
Meeting location: We will be meeting in the brand spanking new Digital
Scholarship Studio in the Rockefeller Library on the Brown campus (10
Prospect St.)
Loui's: Last I heard it was still there. My office isn't near it any more,
so I don't go by as often.
Lou, thank you for offering a Pure ODD talk, I'll shop it around.
Any other questions or new habits since I last attended a council meeting?
thanks --elli

Thanks Elli! Especially if you're going to sort out accomodation for us all! In the past, I think we've found it handy for everyone (or nearly) to be staying in the same hotel/college, though there are always refuseniks. My days of flopping on people's floors are thankfully past though. At Michigan it was easy, because there was only one hotel to choose; likewise at Duke, Hugh made a mass booking for one hotel. I only mentioned AirBNB because it seemed like an interesting alternative, but it probably doesn't work out a whole lot cheaper. Anyway, I have now booked myself on a flight arriving BOS 19:05 on the 24th; departing 21:20 on the 28th. Other people considering travel via London should check the Norwegian Air prices: this lot cost me only 520.7 return, including seat reservations and the so-called "nice&tasty" menu L On 03/02/16 02:08, Mylonas, Elli wrote:

Hi Elli, hi all. thanks for hosting us! I am right now trying to settle for a flight date, and from a budget perspective the most attractive appears to be to arrive on Saturday and leave Wednesday evening. For now I assumed that we have 25.-27. for discussion, bug-fixing, coding is there yet any agenda beyond this or beyond these dates? Just that I get the travel dates right. kind regards and all the best, Stefan Am 02.02.2016 um 23:33 schrieb Lou Burnard:
