Dear Council, through the reminder by Kathryn Tomasek, I realized that the deadline for proposals for the TEI-MM is on next Monday. As we addressed at the last telecon, it would be very interesting to organize a panel on TEI and integrating/supporting other vocabularies and interoperability. As far as I can remember, the first attempt (in Prague) was to focus on text and graphics. At the last telcon I had the impression that the majority would be interested in IIIF or should we propose something more general. Consequently, the three things that I thought of are (1) text and graphics in general (IIIF, SVG), (2) focus on IIIF, (3) or other vocabularies in general (IIIF, GIS vocab, etc.). What are your thoughts on this? Raff, would you still be interested to present your paper in such a panel? Can we even do this by Monday or do you think there will be an extension to the call anyway? Best, Martina Martina Scholger Centre for Information Modelling Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities University of Graz Elisabethstraße 59/III 8010 Graz
I think if we ask kindly the extension is almost guaranteed. There usually is, if memory serves. On 11 May 2017 at 19:25, Scholger, Martina (martina.scholger@uni-graz.at) < martina.scholger@uni-graz.at> wrote:

There's almost certainly going to be an extension, per the Board meeting this morning. But yeah, we do need to get moving on it. I've been remiss about contacting people. Sent from my phone.

Hi,
Yes I'd love to join the panel. I haven't started on an abstract yet, was
planning on working on it during the weekend. It will be on annotating TEI
to IIIF canvases via selectors (as opposed to "pasting" TEI into the
manifest or annotation lists).

This sounds like a great panel. I think focussing on IIIF would be great, but Martina's 3rd option is also really useful. Do you think we could try for a half day IIIF workshop ahead of time? Hi Martina,
Thanks for working on this! I wonder if as it is presented now the panel is
too broad. I would probably consider sticking to TEI - Image integration (I
see that Elisa made this point on a GDoc comment as well).
Another question: are we thinking a roundtable style panel (i.e. 4-6
speakers each giving a quick summary followed by discussion) or a 3-paper
panel? I'm asking because in the former case I would still submit an
independent paper on TEI-IIIF.

Hi,
I agree that this is too broad. Apparently, I'm conflicted by my own personal interests: dealing with images/graphics on one hand and LOD on the other, so I tried to fit it all in...
Let us assume that we want to focus on images/graphics: what are our topics? IIIF, SVG and? Perhaps dealing with ‘graphical content’ in general, not necessarily a standardized vocabulary? Or do we just focus on IIIF and do a whole panel on that?
Regarding the format, I initially thought of a 3 paper panel. What do you think?

Another question: are we thinking a roundtable style panel (i.e. 4-6 speakers each giving a quick summary followed by discussion) or a 3-paper panel? I'm asking because in the former case I would still submit an independent paper on TEI-IIIF.

Hi,
I agree that this is too broad.

Regarding the format, I initially thought of a 3 paper panel. What do you think?

Hi Martina,
Thanks for working on this! I wonder if as it is presented now the panel is too broad. I would probably consider sticking to TEI - Image integration (I see that Elisa made this point on a GDoc comment as well).
Another question: are we thinking a roundtable style panel (i.e. 4-6 speakers each giving a quick summary followed by discussion) or a 3-paper panel? I'm asking because in the former case I would still submit an independent paper on TEI-IIIF.

No, unfortunately we are running out of time. However, thanks for your feedback, Elisa and Raff!
So, you should hand it in as an individual paper.
BTW: I am thinking of handing in my proposal on representing graphical components in TEI - we'll see ...

Thanks for the feedback!
Are we still proposing the panel or should I send this in as a paper?

Well, it’s close to perfect— I marked a couple of small things to amend, though one may not be an error. I agree that it’s a fantastic proposal!

Hi Martina,
Thanks for working on this!
