My instincts are 1. You have there a wonderful example of the ellipsis phenomena. (Not positive how one would encode this: put an <ellipsis> inside an <ab> inside an <sp>, or have just an <ellipsis> with a <desc> that says “one or more speeches omitted in the original here”.) 2. A real life case for <ellipsis> I think.
