Re: [tei-council] F2F scheduling in Lyon

Hi Peter, I remember organising the "Future of ODD" workshop and it was definitely a good thing. Getting those (like Lou, Sebastian, Syd, etc.) into a room to discuss how ODD should develop along with those who were using it in strange ways (like MEI folks), I think worked out well. And look 'Pure ODD' is partly a result thanks to Lou's hard work. That was done as a separate thing not as a council meeting itself. I do think whenever we have conferences where a significant number of us are going to be together, it might be useful to have such meetings. "Focus groups" might be a good way to think about it. Gathering people together to get community involvement in a decision about how something should develop. e.g. If someone wanted to get lots of talented programmers together for a weekend to rewrite Roma, I'd certainly support it. ;-) I think the opening a council meeting has a slightly different intent: by demonstrating how tickets are processed, implemented, built, and make it into the guidelines, we not only encourage those who want to submit tickets, but those who want to join the council (and/or) implement them. -James On 09/09/15 11:27, Peter Stadler wrote:

I agree with Martin that 2-3 straightforward few tickets might be an interesting thing to go through. And we can also have some general discussion, but think the going through some tickets from start to finish is probably a useful demonstration of various aspects of the Council.

As we will have been meeting for two days already, we should have got through loads of tickets, and also recovered from that strange punch-drunk craziness which tends to appear on the third day (which I assume we are free to spend doing nothing). Which gives us the opportunity to do something a bit different, like present how tickets are handled, discuss recent major changes, etc.

I'd be happy to rabbit on about pure ODD again, if that would be useful.

If election results are announced, then invite all successful candidates to a "Intro to Council Workflows" session. (Not too much more space.)

Neither of these would be really doing Council business (except maybe handling a handful of tickets to demonstrate?) but training people in what we do.

Though to be honest, if an unsuccessful candidate still wanted to spend a morning with us, then I'd have no objections.

I'm of two minds: I don't think there'd be any harm in having an open or semi-open Council meeting. As you all know, I'm in favor of allowing more voluntary (if properly credited) participation anyway. On the other, we might run into space constraints (I think we certainly would at the hotel) and there might be issues with getting participants up to speed so they could do helpful work. We'd also have to talk about what they'd be able to do. I think it would be a good thing, but we'd need to do various things to get set up for it, and do them quickly, including a call for participation.

What do you all think?
