I surveyed the available hotels in the area, concentrating on what's close to our venue. James' and Martina's hotel is now full, but Peter was onto something--I booked where he did, and it's super close by (see the spreadsheet). Booking.com was pretty helpful. 
The first place I nearly booked was a hostel, and there are a few pretty close to our venue. Basically you get a little enclosed bunk or loft bed and leave your luggage down below. I wasn't sure I'd sleep well there...
